Compassion on Wheels,
Community in action
Every meal delivered is made possible by volunteers, donors, local businesses, community grants, and supporters who believe no one in Hendricks County should face hunger or isolation alone. Together we are turning compassion into action - one meal at a time.
Meals on wheels of Hendricks County began with a simple but powerful idea. After witnessing a Meals on Wheels program in action while on vacation in Texas, Carolyn and Clark Kellum returned home inspired to make a difference. Alongside a group of dedicated community members and hospital staff, they formed a committee to bring nutritious meals to individuals in their own homes.
On May 7, 1973, the program officially began, serving ten recipients along three delivery routes.
Over the years, what started as a small, volunteer driven effort has grown into a trusted and vital community resource. Today, Meals on Wheels of Hendricks County provides thousands of hot, nutritious meals annually to clients across the county. In addition to meals, our drivers offer something equally important - a friendly face, a wellness check, and meaningful human connection.
For more than five decades, we have remained committed to supporting older adults, individuals with disabilities, and other homebound neighbors.
